Upton to Introduce Keep Your Health Plan Act

Legislation Aims to Spare Those Americans Whose Plans Are Being Cancelled

Washington, DC, Oct 28, 2013 -

Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, is to introduce legislation this evening to protect the many Americans whose health plans are being cancelled because of the health law.  President Obama repeatedly promised,g If you like your health care plan, youfll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.h Unfortunately, many Americans from coast to coast are all too familiar with the consequences of the presidentfs broken promise, already receiving health plan termination notices in the mail. The Keep Your Health Plan Act will ensure that insurance plans available today in the individual market can continue to exist which would allow Americans who want to keep their current health coverage to do so.

gDespite the presidentfs repeated promise of eif you like your plan, you can keep it,f many Americans are now learning the sad reality that their current plan will no longer exist beginning on January 1. Instead they are forced to purchase health care that they cannot afford through a system that does not even work, and thatfs just not fair,h said Upton, who is also chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. gThis legislation is about providing folks the peace of mind that they will be allowed to keep their current coverage if they so choose.h

The bill would allow health care plans available today on the individual market to continue to be offered so Americans have the option to keep what they have if they like it. The bill also ensures that Americans maintaining their health care plan would not face a penalty under the Affordable Care Act.|
